Anything and Everything: Where Unique Antiques Call Home

You can find many a gem wandering the streets of Port Richmond, but few quite as rewarding as Anything and Everything, a 12,000 square foot warehouse that we discovered when searching for the perfect dining room chairs for our new home.

Sitting on the corner of East Westmoreland and Belgrade, the brick building sports an American flag most days with a huge garage door opening up to the showroom. Once inside, the place feels like a museum where you can piece together history from all around the world.

“Just yesterday at a estate auction I got this, it’s a 1920s art deco penny scale,” Mickey White, the owner of the warehouse, tells me with a smile. He points to the machine and has me give it a try to prove it still works. According to U.S. Army Standards (the weight guidelines imprinted on the machine), I’m too skinny.

For Mickey, Anything and Everything, is more than a business. It’s a gathering place and a focal point for his life ever since his father purchased the building 20 years ago. On Saturdays he frequently has family and friends come to the store for food and drinks, often making use of the “meeting table,” an enormous circular marble table purchased in Voorhees, New Jersey from an ex ball player.

During shop hours you can find him arranging antiques as if it’s an art form in itself. He has art sections and Philadelphia-made vintage display cases filled with beautiful pieces and acrylic paintings. He also has a newly organized vinyl section with tape machines and record players. This month he acquired some stunning African art: wooden masks, a thin man and an ebony ceremonial shield carved entirely from one piece of wood. Mickey often works with Barry Slosberg, a local auctioneer, to acquire such things. Both have a talented eye for detail and aesthetic.

A few local customers appeared to poke around at things while Mickey and I are talking. A lovely lady named Ali walks up and Mickey greets her with a smile and a laugh as they joke about a Chinese pot that she recently purchased that proved to be quite heavy. She continues to look and finds a beautiful oxidized fountain, which she purchases on the spot. Mickey helps her get it ready for her house.

Rare and unusual things — like an ornately carved wooden bar, a hand painted wooden Japanese Shoji or a vintage desk — can be found at Anything and Everything along with button up shirts classic beer steins and ceremonial knives.

Like many historic buildings in the neighborhood, the warehouse has had a few lives before Mickey’s dad purchased it. During Prohibition the building served as a warehouse for bootlegging moonshine and other liquors. After that, it served as an auto repair shop. Today it serves different purpose for the community, housing all these hard to find treasures of all shapes and sizes that give visitors a glimpse of the world and of history. Kind of like a museum, but everything is for sale and the prices are reasonable.

Oh, Anything and Everything did have our chairs — carved oak, recently reupholstered and priced right. We bought them on the spot and have been getting compliments from guests ever since.

Anything and Everything is located at 3283 Belgrade St, Philadelphia, PA 19134. Mickey is available most days to showcase the room. Hours vary so please call first at 267-312-4171.
