Block Church: A Week of Community Service Projects Hosted by Local Church

The Block Church will be hosting a series of community service projects in Port Richmond and the adjacent neighborhoods from Saturday, March 19, through Saturday, March 26. Revive Week, as it has been dubbed, seeks to not only unify The Block Church with local citizens, but also rectify some of the communities’ long-unresolved issues.

“Revive Week is simply a larger and concentrated effort within our church of something we try do regularly throughout the year,” said Pastor Joey Furjanic.

On Saturday, March 19, volunteers will work to clean and paint Horatio B. Hackett Elementary School at 2161 East York Street. The following afternoon will be devoted to cleaning local community areas, including Campbell and Aramingo Squares, as well as Penn Treaty Park on North Delaware Avenue.

On Monday, The Block Church will deliver postcards and gifts to teachers at Richmond Elementary School at 2944 Belgrade Street. That evening donations will be made to The Last Stop, a recovery center located in Kensington. On Tuesday, The Block and Liberti East Churches will combine forces to participate in a meal-packing holiday outreach program.

On Thursday, evening members of The Block Church will help to clean and reorganize the drop-off center at The Salvation Army that sustained flooding damages this past year. The final event of the week will take place on Saturday, March 26. There will be an Easter egg hunt from 2PM – 4PM at Powers Park Conservancy at the intersection of Almond and Ann Streets in Port Richmond. There will be numerous activities in which to partake; all are encouraged to attend this free event.

The Block Church will host an Easter service this year at The Fillmore at 29 East Allen Street in Fishtown.
