PFCU, KCAPA Hosts Paint Day For New Neighborhood Mural
In 2015, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU), with the help of the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, commissioned a mural in the East Kensington-Fishtown neighborhood. Following a selection process, local artists Jeffro Kilpatrick and Brad Carney designed a mural hand-picked by the community that will be created on an exterior wall of A C Auto Body (located at the corner of East Dauphin Street and Frankford Avenue).
The mural features representations of the artsy culture that has risen in the Riverwards, featuring local artists, contemporary musicians, dancers, welders, fabricators and other muralists from the neighborhood.
“My idea with Jeff was to come together and tell that story through a picture,” Carney said. “This [mural] taps into the history of the fishtown kensington neighborhood as far back as the turn of the century.”
As the next step in the mural making process, PFCU, Mural Arts, and Kensington Creative and Performing Arts High School held a paint day at Kensington Creative and Performing Arts High School, where students had a chance to be involved in the mural making process.
Upon completion, a dedication ceremony will be held at the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Arts Festival in May 2016. Below are more photos from the paint day.
