Rain Gardens Coming to Harrowgate Park
Harrowgate Park was once home to the medicinal spring that led neighborhood’s founding. The park, which is located at the modern intersection of Kensington and Tioga, is the subject of a new project from Green City, Clean Waters, Philadelphia’s plan to reduce pollution from storm runoff. The organization met with the Harrowgate Civic Association to discuss plans to install four rain gardens in the park.
Rain gardens use plants and natural landscapes to slow water flow and filter stormwater from nearby streets. Construction of the rain gardens will begin this winter, with plants being installed in the spring. The project should finish sometime in the summer of 2016.
