Raw Bars, Live Jazz and Free Beer: First Friday in Fishtown

It’s that time of the month — First Friday!

Hopefully tonight’s impending storm won’t wash away your plans! But if you haven’t made any yet — or are feeling adventurous despite the rough forecast — here are a few events to get your art-loving, beer-drinking evening started.

  • Johnny Brenda’s (1201 Frankford Ave.) is holding a happy hour 4 PM – 6 PM. This entails half off a “raw bar” of local beer and oysters.
  • How does free beer sound? Bottle Bar East (1308 Frankford Ave.) is holding a free beer tasting of New Belgium beer with Fathead on tap. However it only just begins with beer — Jazz will begin at 7 PM and starting at 10 PM get ready for a DJ.
  • Next door, Kensington Quarters (1310 Frankford Ave.) joins the fun in First Friday for the first time. Friday evening at the butchershop/bar will feature various artwork from Laura Fabens-Lassen. Once it hits 9 PM they will be hosting an after party on their second floor with $5 dollar food and drink specials.
  • Heading further down to Circle of Hope Gallery (2009 Frankford Ave.) to check out art by Eric Van Nielsen
  • NicNacs4Peanuts (312 E Girard Ave.) is having a sidewalk sale until 9PM of vintage and antique items.
  • The Art Dept (1638 E Berks St.) is holding a showing called, “Re:mark” which is the works of Janette Chien and Wayne Kleppe. Anyone can enjoy the collaboration the artists worked on with food and drinks from 6 PM – 9 PM.

It does not stop here — check out other events going on tonight here.

If you are what I like to call a “baller-on-a-budget”, then check out how Sean Barrett spent his First Friday back in June with in this classic Spirit News article.
