Th trial for Rafael Crespo, 46, who is being charged with the murder of a young woman in Kensington in 1996 started on Thursday, September 3. He is accused of killing 17-year-old Anjeanette Maldonado, an honor student at the Franklin Learning Center who was found dead in a crack house after being raped and strangled.

The case had no suspects until 2013 when DNA evidence led Philadelphia’s Cold Case Unit to Crespo, who had been in prison in Florida since 2003 for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter.
