York Street Improvements On The Way

The FNA, ORCA, Streets Department, and Councilman Mark Squilla’s office met on August 4 to discuss how to improve safety on York Street in between Frankford and Aramingo. The Streets Safety Engineer drew up plans for a number of improvements, including additional striping on the street, bike lanes, angle parking and stop bars. All of these improvements should be implemented by August 30 if everything goes according to plan. Funding for the project comes from Automated Redlight Enforcement Program.

The organizations also created further plans that will be implemented on a longer-term basis. There are plans to reevaluate the pedestrian signal at the intersection of Frankford, Trenton, and York, which currently doesn’t afford walkers much time to cross. There are plans to prune tress that obstruct signage along York, creating a safety hazard. Streets Traffic Engineering will also be evaluating York Street to see where physical barriers would be beneficial and implement them as needed.
