Art, Music and Free Booze: April First Friday Rundown


It’s that time of the month again — First Friday is here!

Now that the weather is right and spring is in bloom, here are a few events to get your art-loving, beer-drinking evening started.

  • Jerry’s Bar (129 W. Laurel Street, 9 PM – 12 AM): Showcasing original works from local Philadelphia artist Leanne Grimes
  • ART DEPT (1638 E Berks Street at Tulip Street, 6-9PM): Ryan Psota: A Quivering Glisten — Ryan Psota is an illustrator/designer living in Philadelphia, PA, and received his BFA from the University of the Arts where he studied illustration. His inspirations include urban art, nature, lasers, old man skin, pyramids, ancient scrolls, ornate sweaters, seaweed, and the aurora borealis. Stick around for dancing, drinking, food + fun
  • Bottle Bar East (1308 Frankford Ave): Art show by art and music collective Deviant Philly. Free beverage samples will be given out from 5-7pm and live Jazz will be performed from 7-9 pm.
  • Jinxed (1331 Frankford Ave, 6-10PM): Jinxed Show will feature posters and original art by Gunsho (@quigleysmagicshop) and Tallboy (@tallboy666) on April Fools Day!   • Cook and Shaker (Corner of Tulip & Alberta St., starting at 8PM): Firkin Friday featuring St. Benjamin Brewing Co.’s Foul Weather Jack and art by Jess Harron
  • Atmosphere Printing Company (1761 Frankford Avenue, 6-9PM): Closing Show – Daughters of Nothing: Print Collection by Brunofsky and Atmo Print Co. Featuring the illustrations of Fishtown artist Brunofsky, this is a special blacklight print show with limited edition prints for sale.
  • Little Berlin (2430 Coral St, 6-9PM): Magpie group show — This group show is a collection of artworks done by eight University of the Arts seniors. Magpie is an all female multi-disciplinary group art exhibition which explores many different themes through various distinctive mediums. Throughout the exhibition, these artists are breaking the conventions of the photographic image with sculpture, interactive arts, video, and experimental ­making methods.
