Fishtown Artist, Entrepreneur Crowdfunds her Dream for Children’s Art, Dance Center

Fishtowners, let’s introduce you to Alexis Talia Olsen, a local artist who’s looking to spread her passion to the youth of the Riverwards by founding the Palmer Pond Art Center.

With the building purchased–at Gaul Street and Montgomery Avenue–and renovations 75% completed, according to her Indiegogo video, Olsen is hoping to raise $10,000 to finish the art center geared toward children, 13 and younger. As of today, Miss Olsen is currently standing at about $2,000.

In an interview with Philly Voice, Olsen explained that her motivations for creating Palmer Pond come from a booming Fishtown neighborhood from an adult’s perspective, without much benefit to local kids. She also is using the Art Center to foster early support for the arts, as art programs are always first on the cutting room floor for schools both locally and nationwide.
