The Fishtown-based film production company Born Lucky Studios was recently awarded Best Music Video at the New York City Independent Film Festival (NYCIFF) for their project entitled “Human Cannonball.” The video was shot at Christ Church Neighborhood House at 20 North American Street.

“Human Cannonball” is an unedited, seven-minute-long music video featuring the David Mayfield Parade and local dance troupe Pink Hair Affair. Laura Jenkins, the founder of Pink Hair Affair and former Philadelphia Eagles dancer, choreographed the routine. It took 23 people three days and eight takes to produce the award-winning video.

“This is a vibrant city with the most exciting independent underground arts scene,” said Born Lucky Studio’s Emily Gallagher. “Austin [Elston] and I are delighted to have had the opportunity to showcase Philly’s mad skills on a national platform.”

Emily Gallagher and Austin Elston founded Born Lucky Studios more than 10 years ago. They have since produced PBS documentaries, political advertisements, horror flicks, music videos and a television episode for National Geographic. They have worked with artists such as comedian Godfrey, actress Sarah Jessica Parker and basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal.

Born Lucky has recently finished shooting a short science fiction film entitled Octavia. The entire project was shot in the El Bar at 1356 North Front Street in Kensington. The producers created the Zero Waste Film Challenge in order to generate the smallest possible amount of trash. The entire cast and crew of Octavia were able to minimize their refuse production, generating only eight total ounces of trash. Click here to learn more about the Zero Waste Film Challenge.
