I-95 Slip Ramp at Girard Avenue Closing Permanently, More Construction To Come

The Girard Avenue slip-ramp connected to the I-95 northbound on-ramp at the Girard Avenue Interchange will be permanently closing on Thursday, December 3rd, as part of a $211 million project set to renovate I-95’s northbound side between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.

This closing is one of three separate renovation-focused contracts carried out using solely federal funds, contracted by James J. Anderson Construction Company (Philadelphia), the developers currently demolishing and rebuilding the I-95 north viaduct between Ann and Palmer Streets.

PennDot said in a press release about the project that motorists will be directed to continue east on Girard Avenue to Richmond Street, turn right on Richmond Street, then turn right onto the main ramp to I-95 north on Delaware Avenue in lieu of accessing I-95 using the slip ramp.

Several other operations under the project will lead to the closing of main on-ramp to I-95 north from Delaware Avenue later this month. As an alternative, PennDot will be constructing a temporary road, used as a detour, between Somerset Street and Allegheny Avenue along the east side of I-95. The […] north off-ramp at Girard Avenue as well as the entrance and exit ramps on the southbound side of I-95 at the interchange will be open despite construction.
