Justice “Speedy” Perez: Local 8-Year-Old Boxer Makes His Amateur Debut
On Friday, July 22, a few hundred people crowded into Diesel Fit Gym to watch kids from around the area compete in a USA Boxing sanctioned fight night. The sweltering heat did not stop boxing fans from coming out to show their support for the sport and to watch Justice “Speedy” Perez, 8, make his amateur boxing debut.
Speedy came out swinging. His quick jabs and ability to dodge his opponents punches demonstrated why he has earned the nickname “Speedy.” Perez bobbed and weaved around the ring, landing blows to his opponent and taking some licks himself, all with the audience cheering his every move.
Perez put up a great fight, but in true Rocky form, he lost his first real match. He was noticeably upset by the decision, but Perez exited the ring into the arms of waiting fans who cheered him. He gave a triumphant peace sign, as he was carried off into the crowd.
