Missing Child Cold Case from 1991 Gets a Warm Lead
Authorities released a tip call to a missing child hotline for the first time in hopes of breaking open the cold case of the 1991 disappearance of 11-year-old Mark Himebaugh, according to a report on NBC10 Philadelphia, shared by Cape May County Herald.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, a man who described himself as the “son of the witness” to the disappearance called the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children from a payphone outside the Sunoco gas station at Richmond and Castor Streets in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood Dec. 27, 2010.
The caller gave a name, “Gilbert Patrick Marie,” as someone who may have been involved in Himebaugh’s disappearance.
According to the report, Middle Township Police received a similar call the same night, but have not been able to track down the person named by the caller.
Last week, Middle Township Police and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced a new effort to find the now 34-year-old. The release of the tip call is part of that renewed effort.
According to the report, detectives went to Port Richmond June 4 and handed out fliers with information about Himebaugh. They also released parts of the tip call. The entire call was not made public to protect the case’s integrity.
For the next several weeks, investigators and analysts will be re-interviewing individuals and conducting new interviews. They have set up a command post at the last location Himebaugh was seen, at the gate of Cape May County Park South.
Anyone with information is asked to visit the command post or call its hot line at (800) 843-5678.
