Penn’s Garden Development News (November 9, 2016)

Spring Garden

A new dog park is currently under construction on the 1800 block of Green Street. According to the posted permits, it will include a new fence, signage and a fountain for the dogs. Despite some pushback from the Enon Baptist Church and the Waring School, the project is coming along nicely. City Council President Darrell Clarke has played an integral role in the furtherance of the project.dog_park_1

Brewerytown

Two triplexes will be built at 1248 – 1250 North 25th Street in Brewerytown. The Brewerytown – Sharswood Community Civic Association supported the project, and the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) granted the developers the necessary variances last week. A third triplex will also be constructed across the street sometime soon.triplex_25th_1

Art Museum Area

A new Whole Foods Market opened last month at 2108 Pennslyvania Ave. It includes myriad state-of-the-art conveniences. There is a shopping-cart escalator, a pub, a coffee stand and a juice bar that serves sorbet-like treats. The meat and fish products are prepared in plain sight.rodin_square_1

The Whole Foods Market is part of a new complex called Rodin Square and Dalian on the Park. This mixed-use project has been lauded for its stylistic meshing of city and suburb, but has been condemned for its overall outward appearance. Mushinsky Voelzke Associates, an architectural firm based in Washington, D.C., provided the design for the project.
