After what seemed like a truly endless winter, warm weather has finally arrived. Here is a list of parks across the Riverwards that offer tons of different ways to enjoy it all getting green again. Whether you’re looking to lounge on a blanket in the grass, jump into a game of basketball or stop and smell the roses, this list can point you in the right direction.

Fishtown

Palmer Park (Frankford Ave. and Palmer St.)

Situated right on Frankford Avenue between Palmer and Columbia, adjacent to dog-friendly Steap and Grind, is Palmer Park. Five entrances from five meeting streets create a star-shaped design of paths, joining in the center and lined with benches. Warm weather will make this park a prime spot for sitting under the trees with a coffee, enjoying the flowers and some leisurely dog watching.

Palmer Park

Belgrade Community Garden (Belgrade St. & Frankford Ave.)

This space doubles as both a garden and small park where Belgrade meets Frankford Ave. When the rose bushes bloom mid-Spring the thorny stems will come alive and create a peaceful place to enjoy the flowers and sunshine. The adjacent gardens will also bring more life to the block as neighbors start planting.

Konrad Square (Sepviva St. & E Dauphin)

Established in 1988, Konrad Square is named in honor of a local firefighting hero. Just around the corner from Little Baby’s ice cream shop on Frankford, this park is the perfect place to enjoy a scoop in the sun or shade. Keep an eye out for movie nights and flea markets as the days get warmer.

Orianna Hill Park (4th St. & Orianna St.)

Orianna Hill is a hybrid—one part people park, one part community garden, one part dog park. Whether you want to picnic in the sun, sow some seeds or take your dog out for some socializing, this park offers all those options. In an effort to keep the space clean and green, donors and patrons maintain the park, and it is asked that dogs be registered with the park before enjoying the space.

A warm afternoon will find this place buzzing with life. One of the largest parks in Port Richmond, Aramingo Square offers a good option for active kids and teens. It is equipped with basketball courts, a large playground, and multiple swing sets.

It is not uncommon to see a dog in full sprint after a tennis ball launched across the wide-open field.
