A Pork Emporium No More: PIG Closes After One Month
Apparently there is a limit to how much bacon is too much bacon.
Chef Joseph Shilling told Philly Eater back in December that he will “…Never need to purchase butter because it comes from a cow.” Well, he won’t need to purchase much of anything at all anymore because PIG, the restaurant at 712 W. Girard Ave. that opened less than a month ago, mysteriously closed its doors on January 16th.
The all-pork all-the-time concept did not take off in the neighborhood. The space was previously inhabited by other failed ventures like Union Taco and EAT. Chef Schilling did garner some national media attention with this witty send-off of a sandwich dedicated to former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly and his short three year stint in Philly.
Inspirational and awkward Facebook pictures quickly signaled the beginning of the end.
And then on January 16, at 4:39PM PIG Restaurant posted on Facebook:
PIG IS CLOSED!
Thanks for the support.
