Accu-Reggie—January 27

Wow, what a week! The Blizzard of 2016 walloped the region with unprecedented amounts of snow. After 22.4 inches officially fell in Philadelphia, it was the City’s 4th largest snowfall on record! The storm brought a general 15-30 inches across the region with lesser amounts across Southern New Jersey and more across the Northern and Western suburbs of Philadelphia. The winds, the drifts, the whiteout conditions, the coastal flooding, the wind chills, the crippling nature of the snow — no matter how you view it — it was a truly historic storm!

This week we’ll experience much calmer and warmer weather. The snowpack will gradually melt away as temperatures get at or above 50 this week. We start the week with a cold shot, but it looks to quickly retreat as milder air gets pumped into the region.

Snow chances this week: There are no major chances for snow this week. We now already have 22.9 inches of snow for the winter, which is normal for an entire winter! We should get more snow in a couple weeks. In fact, I think we may get another big storm in February.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday all feature chilly weather. It will not be brutally cold, but temperatures will struggle to get out of the 30s each day with lows well below freezing each night.

Saturday is the start of a warming trend as temperatures get above 40 degrees. We need to be cautious here though; a cold front will lay horizontally across the country and if it slides far enough south the warm up would not continue from here. As of now it looks like it will continue through Tuesday.

Sunday it gets even warmer, but we introduce clouds and a slim chance of some drizzle.

Monday and Tuesday could feature temperatures that get at or above 50 degree! Now we will have to pay the price with some showers, but 50 degrees will feel like 70 after all the cold we’ve recently been through.

You warm lovers enjoy the warm up, meanwhile I’ll be looking for the next blizzard!

The weather winner of the week is Sunday; the weather loser is Friday.
