Accu-Reggie: Weather Outlook and Forecast (March 2 – March 8)

Last week was dry and mild again and February ended up about three degrees warmer than average with only 3.3 inches of snow the entire month. As we head into March, winter is on the ropes! So if you didn’t enjoy the 8 degree weather we had on February 14th hang in there — it will be in the 70s early next week!

March is the transition month: Winter will try to fight on, but will inevitably lose out to the building warmth to the south. Our forecast will start rainy and chilly and remain cool through the weekend. Next week everything changes as warmth floods the eastern half of the country! Before we get there though we do have two more chances for snow!Accu-Reggie-march2web-02

Snow chances this week: A storm moves in from the west on Friday and could bring 1-2 inches of snow (mainly to grassy areas). I will watch this storm to see if it turns into something bigger, but right now it looks like a small event. An even smaller system comes through on Saturday night that could also bring a coating to 2 inches. Once again, not a major storm, just a fleeting taste of winter.

Wednesday starts wet before drying out and turning windy and cold. Temperatures will start in the upper 50s before dropping into the 40s.

Thursday is a brisk and cold day. It starts with plenty of sunshine, but clouds will increase towards evening. Light snow is set to begin after midnight.

Friday is also cold with clouds and morning snow possible. How much snow we get depends on how the storm develops. If it comes close enough to us we could get 4+ inches, but the chances of that look small now. I will keep you updated throughout the week. Keep in mind, it’s hard for snow to stick in March anyway so the “melt factor” could be high with this one.

Saturday features temperatures in the lower 40s with clouds increasing in the evening. A weak system comes through overnight with another period of light snow and flurries. Sunday is sunny and nice. Any snow we got on Friday or Saturday will melt quickly!

Monday features the start of our warming trend as temperatures jump to the 50s. A brief shower may occur in the middle of the day, otherwise it will be cloudy.

On Tuesday temperatures really ramp up as we touch near 60 degrees and 70s soon follow! Get ready for some beautiful spring weather!

The weather winner of the week is Tuesday; the weather loser is Friday.
