Family Offers $5,000 Reward for Suspects in Shooting of Young Kensington Teen

Diamond Santiago, 13, was just hanging out on the porch of her Kensington home on May 29, when she was critically wounded by a stray bullet in a random neighborhood shooting.

After four weeks of recovery—and seven surgeries—at Temple University Hospital, Santiago’s family is now offering $5,000 for the shooters’ capture.

“I’m angry because I know that it happened to her,” said her mother, Mildred. “It happened to other kids, and no one is doing anything about it, because they don’t want to speak up.”

Young Diamond is not out of the woods, yet. The bullet that hit her ripped through her internal organs and severely damaged her liver. Her body is now in a constant fight against internal infection, a process which her mother told 6ABC has doctors concerned.

Despite many eyewitnesses to the shooting, no one is coming forward with information, perhaps out of fear of reprisal—or as police suspect, the overall sentiment of witnesses toward “snitching.”

Police and Diamond’s family urge anyone with information to come forward, hoping the $5,000 reward will loosen a few reticent tongues.
