Jaxon: New BYOB Coming to Northern Liberties

701 N. 3rd Street will be home to Jaxon next week, a new BYOB restaurant located in Northern Liberties. The eatery will call the corner of North 3rd Street and Fairmount Avenue its new home, replacing Il Cantuccio.

Tony Schiro, the former owner of The Latest Dish and Fluid nightclub, is looking to open his new restaurant after a three year hiatus from the industry.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the game,” Schiro said. “I’ve missed it just long enough that I’ve forgotten how hard it is.” He told Sprit News that his restaurant’s name was inspired by his son, Jaxon, who is three years old.

“I actually live right down the street, I’ve been [in Northern Liberties] since 1996 when it was shady and cheap,” he added. “I’ve always passed this place and I approached the owner about taking over the lease. I love this neighborhood, we’ve been here so long that I have a lot of friends here.”

Jaxon’s Facebook page emphasizes their causal atmosphere, their focus on simple items and, of course, the idea that you can come enjoy local food with your own choice of alcohol. Few things could be better than that.Jaxon sign 2

Jaxon’s menu will feature food items from local farms and urban gardens and cooked by Ed Conwell, who is a chef at Kanella South, and Doug Dreisbach, who is a chef at Little Fish. Dreisbach has also used his culinary skills and prowess at La Colombe and Serpico. Together, these minds will put forth a unique, rotating “chalkboard” style selection of options, creating a new experience for returning customers that anticipates changing over “every couple of months, six times a year or so, keeping it seasonal.”

Schiro also mentioned an old favorite returning to the menu of his newest restaurant.

“Almost by popular demand, I’m bringing back the Mac and Cheese that we used to sell at the Latest Dish,” Schiro said. “There’s a lot of kids in the neighborhood so hopefully we’ll get them hooked on it.”

The BYOB starts its dinner service at 5PM, but what is a Philly restaurant without a special day off? Jaxon will be open everyday with the exception of Tuesday.

“I’m just looking froward to be a small, BYOB neighborhood spot that people keep coming to every couple weeks or so,” Schiro said.Jaxon Sign
