LOVE YOUR PARK’S ANNUAL FALL SERVICE DAY APPROACHES
LOVE Your Park Week in Philadelphia has returned, coupled with the fourth annual Fall Service Day that will occur this Saturday on November 14, 2015.
LOVE Your Park Week is run by the LOVE Your Park Program, a collaborative effort between Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. As their motto reads, the program was created as a way to “clean, green & celebrate Philly parks.”

The week entails a “series of service projects, fun events, educational programs, family activities, tours, and more at over 100 parks throughout Philadelphia.” It ends with Fall Service Day, which is designed to engage “hundreds of volunteers in preparing our parks for winter.” Volunteers take part in several activities like cleaning up litter, collecting leaves for compost, weeding, tree planting and perennial planting.
Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation make an effort to maintain parks in Philadelphia, not only during LOVE Your Park Week, but throughout the year. Both organizations helped convert McPherson Square Park in Kensington — formerly known as “Needle Park” — to a safe space for kids to play in June 2014.
