Man Ordered to Stand Trial for Abduction and Alleged Kensington Rape

A Hunting Park man was ordered trial Thursday on charges of trying to abduct one woman, and abducting and raping another, in the pre-dawn hours of May 1.

Manuel Cintron, 24, was identified in court by both alleged victims—two women, 30 and 22 years old—during a preliminary hearing before Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge Karen Y. Simmons.

As testified by the 30-year-old, the first attack occurred in North Philadelphia, about 4:20 a.m., when, as she was making her way to the bus stop, Cintron allegedly approached her with a gun and told her, “Don’t do anything stupid, or I’ll shoot you in the head.”

According to an article in Philly.com, the woman was able to avoid being abduction, running to a nearby bus and calling police.

The second woman, 22, said she was walking to work in the 2000 block of East York Street in Kensington when Cintron allegedly confronted her with his gun, saying, “Do what I say, and nothing bad will happen.”

The woman testified that Cintron grabbed forced her into a blue van, drove around several blocks until she lost track of where she was, and raped her after forcing her to undress in the van.

The woman said her assailant dropped her off at Almond and Boston Streets in Olde Richmond—after photographing her driver’s license with her address—and threatened reprisal if she reported the rape to police.

Cintron apparently disguised himself by dying his hair orange, wearing glasses and falsely identifying himself as “Omar Morales,” with the help of a fake I.D. Police were able to identify him from his distinctive tattoos and arrested him on May 18.

While the preliminary hearing took place on Thursday, trial date is pending.
