Police have responded to a barricade situation on the 3000 block of Agate Street in Port Richmond. The Philadelphia SWAT team is also there along with medics.

Investigators say that the person inside the house may be under the influence of narcotics. Police do not know if anyone inside the house has been injured or killed at this time.

UPDATES: Police have confirmed that the man was under the influence of narcotics. He had a bad reaction and his family requested that he be taken to a mental health evaluation.

The man refused to cooperate with medics and barricaded himself in the back room of his house. Medics called the police. Residents reported that police were on the scene around 8:30 AM this morning and that SWAT arrived about half an hour later.

Police were unable to communicate with the man. One resident was trying to call him on his phone but there was no response.

Two residents who were at the scene said that this block is notorious for its problems with the law. They suspected the resident was under the influence of “wet,” usually a cigarette dipped in PCP or embalming fluid.

Once police apprehended the suspect, the scene quickly dissipated. Firefighters loaded up their gear and SWAT teams hefted their shields back into their vehicles.

Later, the same two residents said that one of the SWAT team members shook one of their hands and said “I shot him.” Police did not answer questions at the scene regarding the suspect’s condition.

FURTHER UPDATES: The man who barricaded himself inside the house was shot with tasers which were ineffective. SWAT member who said “I shot him” was almost certainly referring to this as there were no reports of gunfire.

The man was taken into police custody and taken to Episcopal Hospital for evaluation. He has not been charged in the incident.
