Shootout in West Kensington Ends with 1 Dead and 2 Injured

According to Action News, three men were caught in the crossfire of a West Kensington shootout yesterday. One man was shot dead and two others are in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

The shootout occurred in the 100 block of West Wishart Street shortly before 6PM Sunday.

“It’s like a lot of shots. My brother was like yo, yo get inside,” Steven Cuevas, a neighbor, told Action News.

The man who was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital was a 47-year-old who sustained gun wounds to both his groin and buttocks. Police say the other two victims were a 17-year-old who was shot in the face and a 19-year-old who sustained a bullet wound in the back of the head.

“Based on ballistic evidence, we know 20 shots were fired from two separate caliber weapons. Many of those calibers appear to be from an assault rifle,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The 19-year-old victim was found wearing a bulletproof vest and wielding a 9mm handgun. Police have several questions regarding this victim.

“Once we determine who he is, did he have a permit to carry this weapon, what type of work was he involved in for him to not only be carrying a gun, which is a big concern to us, but why would this individual be wearing a ballistics vest?” Small said.

The Police intend to find out if the three victims knew each other, and if so, what their connection to each other was.

The alleged suspect was last seen sporting a gray hoodie and hat and was headed westbound on Allegheny at Front Street.
