Students Discuss Bullying

On May 24, 2012, State Representative John Taylor came to Mother of Divine Grace School to talk with the 8th grade students about the topic of bullying. After going to see the heavyhearted movie, “Bully” at Neshaminy Theater, the students in grades five through eight came up with some solutions to prevent bullying from occurring at MDG School and all schools in Philadelphia. The 8th grade students represented the whole upper floor and presented some of these ideas suggested by the other students to State Representative Taylor.

These ideas included: character education for all students, peer mediation and meetings with parents and students to discuss bullying. The students and State Representative Taylor had a very deep discussion regarding these ideas and bullying. State Representative Taylor encouraged the students to be the change that they want to see in our community. He also agreed to continue to work with our community to make some of these changes. The students of Mother of Divine Grace School appreciate State Representative Taylor for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak with them. Our hope is that all students across the city and country are given the opportunity to see the movie “Bully” and to realize that everyone is someone.
