Updates on PECO Road Work in Fishtown

Last week, readers of Spirit News called in to inquire about some road work going on in Fishtown, so we reached out to PECO to find out exactly what was going on. On Friday, PECO spokesman Greg Smore got back to us with the following information:

The work in Fishtown is part of PennDot’s I 95 road-widening project. As part of their project, PennDot will need to install new piers for the road, which requires PECO to relocate an underground electric transmission line. Work begins at around 7AM.z

PECO will be installing 3,000 feet of new transmission line in a reconfigured route to accommodate PennDot’s work. In addition to installing the new electric transmission line, we will be installing several new manholes along this new route.

Work began in late October and is scheduled to be completed by the end of February. The streets that are impacted by this work are as follows:

Girard Avenue between Montgomery Avenue and Berks Street

Berks Street between Girard Avenue and Thompson Street

Thompson Street between Berks and York streets

York Street between Thompson Street and Aramingo Avenue

This work requires partial lane closures so our crews can complete this work safely. The work will be completed in phases and as sections are completed, the excavated areas will be temporarily restored with asphalt or deck plates. Crews will return near the end of the project to complete the final components of the project. Once this work is completed, the roads will be scheduled for final restoration and repaving.
