Weekend Show Preview: Cherry @ Kung Fu Necktie this Sunday

A not to be missed and much anticipated album release show comes to Fishtown at Kung Fu Necktie, Sunday April 3rd.

Philadelphia-native Russell Edler’s latest project, Cherry, is quickly gaining momentum in the underground music scene. Cherry’s debut EP, “Gloom”, is an indie-surf project that immediately draws you in with perky guitar riffs and catchy minimal percussion. Being released by Lame-O Records, the record shines with a bit of Psyche Rock and a great mix of both acoustic and electric guitars. Both lyrically dark and poppy, Cherry is a wonderful addition to the already thriving Philadelphia music scene.

Sunday night’s show will feature some of the best best local acts Philly has to offer, including Sun Organ, lowercase roses, and Cave People.

Not much is known about Sun Organ, as they prefer to stay out of the spotlight. They’ll fit right in for Sunday’s show however with dreamy fuzzed out rock. Sun Organ’s music blends heavy distorted guitars with mellowed out vocals. A fine line between angry and lazy sounds, their record “Wooden Brain”, out on Ranch Records, is a sweet listen start to finish.

Also playing that night is lowercase roses, another promising Philly act that blends abrasive acoustic strokes with melodic piano lines and dry vocals. A self titled EP is available via Bandcamp. That record maintains a moody presence of none other than Matt Schimelfenig, who wrote, performed, produced, and mixed the record.

Some groups can really excel at making you feel something. Cave People have the sound of recluse, loneliness, and an ache of promise — a blast of emotion mixed with nostalgic walks through dark streets. Underappreciated and oh-so talented, Cave People will open the night up.
