Where I’m From

I am from the RIVERWARDS,
Old time fishing town,
Long time roots passed down from family generations.

I am from Catholic to Public Schools,
To stickball in the streets,
Waiting for Mr. Softee at night to bring our treats,
The cry of soft pretzels on Saturday morning,
To diving down deep at the swimmo pool.

I am from bottle caps to IPods,
Atari’s to XBOX 360’s,
Frank Sinatra to Selena Gomez,
Elvis to Taylor Lautner,
To saying, “Hey what’s up?”

I am from old to new,
Knitting and origami are old things to do.
I am from Fred Flinstone to Family Guy,
The Waltons to Wizards of Waverly Place.
I am from Bazooka to Hubba Bubba,
From gumdrops to lifesaver gummies.

I’m from a generation where children talk slang.
Yet, no matter how times have changed,
Kids still want to be a vet, doc, or a scientist.
Times come and go,
In my blood the RIVERWARDS flow.
