Floor Plans Released for Future KCFC Food Market

The Kensington Community Food Co-op (KCFC) is a step closer to its goals of being a full-service, neighborhood grocery store, as its collaborator in CDS Consulting released a prospective floor plans for the the venue.

“We are so excited to be moving forward with the store design process,” said KCFC President Colleen Watts in an email. “We’re working with Nicole Klimek from CDS Consulting who has worked with hundreds of food co-ops and is a true expert in her field.”

With the hopes of opening some time in 2016 at 2666-72 Coral St., the store hopes to be a meeting place in the crux of multiple neighborhoods for shoppers to purchase healthier organic options and quality foods, a break from the conventional supermarket.

And if you shop while hungry, imagine shopping with a couple of craft beers in you; there are also plans for a beer garden with indoor and outdoor seating at the location.

“This process is really giving us a chance to think about what kind of presence we want to have in the community,” Watts said. “We still have a lot of work to do before we’re able to start construction though.”

KCFC currently stands at nearly 700 members, with hopes to hit the 1,000-mark by the end of the summer. It currently runs a Marketplace event on the fourth Tuesday of the month, where members can purchase dried and canned goods and pre-order perishables. They’ll also be hosting a neighborhood flea market at their future construction site this Sunday, July 12.
