KCAPA Drum Line Fights for $15

On Wednesday, April 15, while most Philadelphians were either working or thinking about filing their taxes, several hundred protesters joined together in Center City to demand an increase in minimum wage to $15 an hour at fast food restaurants—more than doubling the current $7.25 Federal minimum wage.

But as any veteran activist will tell you, a protest isn’t a protest without the beat of drums, and that’s where Kensington’s Creative and Performing Arts drum line came in to fill the gap.

As hundreds of Philadelphia minimum wage activists, fast food workers and members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU Local 32BJ) rallied at the McDonald’s at Broad and Arch Street, the KCAPA drum line helped build the energy with their beautifully concocted beats and taps.

Following the rally, the KCAPA percussionists helped lead the march from Center City to the JFK bridge where the march joined forces with another related protest, which happened to be led by another drum line.
