PFCU Student Art Competition Names Local Winners
Philadelphia Federal Credit Union’s (PFCU) 4th annual art competition coincided with National Financial Literacy Month in April. This week, the credit union was pleased to name the winners of the “Picture of Success Art Contest.”
The competition was open to all Philadelphia-area students in grades 3-5 and is designed to teach children how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. Students submitted a work of art that depicted one of their financial goals, and winners of the contest received prizes for their entire classroom, along with a personal $100 savings account.
This year’s art competition winners were Rachel Mace, 4th grade from Our Lady of Port Richmond, and Eva Donnelly, 4th grade from St. Laurentius. On Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4 PFCU’s mascot, Moolah, surprised the winners with a personal $100 savings account, while their classroom received a pizza party.
Karen and Michael Donnelly were both proud of their daughter, Eva, who drew a picture of a lovely, little farm for her winning submission. She was awarded her prize and pizza party on Thursday.
“I’m so proud of my daughter,” Michael said. “Ever since she was a little baby she’s always been into art work.”
PFCU began hosting this art competition in 2012 because it saw a need in Philadelphia to teach young people skills to help them grow into fiscally responsible adults.
Here are photos of the winners, just moments after they received their surprise awards.
