Shared Workspace Firm to Set Up in NoLibs

An up-and-coming, New York-based “co-working” provider is coming to Northern Liberties to take advantage of the growing market for shared office workspace, which is gaining patronage from small companies and startup businesses, nationwide. Philadelphia is also into this trend, with 17 co-working spaces currently open or under construction, according to Philly Voice.

The relatively new company, WeWork, is getting into the Philadelphia market—having newly leased 30,000 square feet at The Piazza in NoLibs—as part of its expansion to 42 spaces in 15 cities, so far. Their mission statement, listed on the company’s website, is to “create a world where people work to make a life, not just a living.”

The company will be leasing the space at 1010 Hancock St., from New York real estate magnate—and husband of Ivanka Trump—Jared Kushner, who purchased the space two years ago.

“There are a lot of small office users in Northern Liberties that could be co-located in the right environment,” Kushner said in an article by Philadelphia Business Journal. “It will also be great because it will only further enhance how people live there and in our apartments.”

While there isn’t a formal date for the space to be fully operational, Kushner showed faith in WeWork seeking out the right demographics as the influx of young professionals continues to hit the Riverwards, with NoLibs spearheading the charge.

“The fact that they chose Northern Liberties shows they understand who their customer is,” he said. “[They] are in a location where they can have the right draw and population.”
