Surprise!! More delays coming to I-95, Girard Ramp

Last week we reported on some temporary travel restrictions along I-95 concerning the northbound Girard Interchange. Today we have an unpleasant update for all you motorists out there: The on-ramp to I-95 north at the Girard Avenue Interchange is scheduled to close in early December for 18 months. Yes, that’s right — James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc., the Philadelphia general contractor that is in charge of $342 million contract to improve the interchange and the highway, will be rerouting your vehicles to Richmond Street.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDot) announced that Richmond street in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, which has been closed for almost two years is reopened as of today, November 23.

During the 18 month long ramp closure, traffic will be detoured north to the newly opened Richmond street that runs along I-95 north between Ann Street and Allegheny Avenue.
