Weckerly’s Ice Cream Will Soon Call Fishtown Home

Weckerly’s Ice Cream, a Philadelphia-based micro-creamery, will be setting up shop at 9 West Girard Avenue to serve 6 rotating ice cream flavors 7 days a week.

“Opening a brick-and-mortar shop has always been our goal and when we found this storefront in Fishtown we knew we could stop looking for the perfect spot,” Jen Satinsky, a trained pastry chef who runs Weckerly’s with her husband Andy, said in a press release.

The 350-square feet shop in Fishtown will have “personal touches of local makers”, like decorative, hanging plants from West Philadelphia’s Chicory Florals (5107 Chester Avenue) and a mural by Jen Satinsky’s sister that details the steps of Weckerly’s ice-cream making process.

Wecklery’s offers an interesting mix of perennial and seasonal ice cream and sorbet flavors, like “peaches and cream on pie crust” in the summer or “candied sweet potato toffee” in the fall.

Each batch of French-style ice cream is churned out individually and crafted with ingredients from local farms throughout South Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, like cage-free eggs and organic grass-fed cream.

The Satinsky’s started Weckerly’s during the late autumn of 2012 in the kitchen of Green Line Café, a coffee-and-bagel spot nestled in the Spruce Hill community of West Philadelphia. Weckerly’s is currently churning pints worthy of Philadelphia Magazine’s  2014 “Best Ice Cream” award  out of North Philadelphia’s Global Dye Works (4500 Worth Street).

The ice cream shop’s opening date is not available yet.
