Accu-Reggie 7 Day Forecast (December 14, 2016 – December 20, 2016)

It’s winter in Philadelphia! Get ready for a wild week as bitter cold, snow, ice, rain and even spring-like warmth comes to the region. All aboard the crazy weather train!

Last week brought us our first real shot of winter cold. Get ready, that was just the appetizer. Thursday and Friday this week will be very, very cold — like, polar vortex cold! The weekend will bring snow, ice and rain to the region. We should see our first accumulating snow, but most of all of it will be melted and washed away by warmth and rain on Sunday. I told you this week was going to be crazy. Let’s go!

Accu-Reggie-dec14-02

On Wednesday, cold air moves in. It’s going to get progressively colder and windier throughout the day. There could be some snow showers in the morning, especially north of the city.

Thursday features nothing short of the polar vortex! Yes, temperatures may squeeze past 25 degrees in Philadelphia, but don’t forget about the wind chill — it’s going to be in the single digits. Baby, it’s cold outside!

Friday starts out like we live in Alaska. Things will “warm” up to the middle 20s. Ouch. At least the wind will die down. We then look to our west for the next troublemaking storm.

Saturday and Sunday will feature a complicated storm that comes in two parts: one that will begin early Saturday morning with primarily snow and another one on Sunday, which will bring primarily rain. Since the Arctic air will be well-entrenched in the area, any precipitation that begins Saturday morning will be snow. I expect 2-4 inches of snow before a changeover to ice and then light rain by Saturday afternoon. Warmer air will sneak up from the South causing temperatures to briefly surge into the 50s on Sunday. I will update this crazy storm as the week goes on. Follow my updates on social media for more.

Monday and Tuesday will feature the return of sunshine and much calmer weather. It will be cold, but not brutal.

The weather winner of the week is Monday; the weather loser is Sunday.
